Nah but for reals, itâs a pic from the million mask march in London.
Itâs true what he says though – there is no subject position from which itâs ok to talk about inequality – if youâre poor you are doing it out of jealously, if youâre not poor youâre doing it out of guilt/saviour complex, if you are young itâs just a phase, if youâre old you are hankering for times long gone and trying to recapture your youth, if youâre not well educated you just donât understand the complexity of the situation, if you are well educated youâre in an academic bubble divorced from reality, if your politically apathetic youâre not allowed to complain, if youâre politically active youâre just trying to push your own sectarian agendaâŚ
For every possible type of person thereâs an established reason why your opinions on inequality are invalid. Thatâs not an accident.
The fatherâs artistic talent is clearly on display here, but Iâm actually really impressed with this kidâs wild imagination. Many of his drawings are both conceptually unique and coherent.
As a chick married to an ex-cop, I say this all the time to people close to me, but it bears repeating here: No cop is your friend after youâve been detained.
Get rear ended by a drunk at a red light? That cop will direct traffic around your vehicle, document the accident, sure. Call animal control on your piece of shit neighbor? Youâve got a pretty good chance the officer who shows up helps out in a meaningful way.
But after youâve been arrested, when a police officer says, âJust be honest with me and Iâll do the same.â or the old âHelp me and Iâll help you.â Politely ask for a lawyer. Shake your head. Ignore them. Pretend youâre Hollywood royalty being asked for a selfie. â âŚmmmm⌠Sorry, but no.â
Keep your mouth shut. Donât do their work for them. Wait for a lawyer.
I worked as a police dispatcher for a year and a half, and Iâd agree with this. My cops were generally nice people (and I say this having been on the wrong end of their sirens twice, once before and once after being hired), and they often helped in good ways⌠on the street. Not so much in the station. Generally speaking (and I know this is oversimplification and is worse in a lot of places but), it went like this:
On the street, you were considered as a person/citizen they have sworn to protect who may have made a mistake or done something wrong.
Once you were in the station, you were considered as a criminal. In the station you are the only one on your side.
Stay safe.
TV and film has you thinking that only guilty people ask for a lawyer. This is not true. The law is complex and difficult and confusing and if youâre being questioned by the police youâre not going to be in your best state of mind. A lawyer is your basic civil right and you should exercise that right. Keep silent, ask for a lawyer, take your legal advice.
Guilty people donât ask for a lawyer, smart people do.
âGuilty people donât ask for a lawyer, smart people do.â
My uncle was a cop. My uncle is the most down to earth, wouldnât hurt a fly person in the world. I donât think he even arrested a single person ever, that wasnât his job on the force.
His advice? Get a fucking lawyer. Never say a damn word. A cop knows how to twist your words around and make you even doubt yourself. They know damn well how to make you feel guilty by getting a lawyer. YOU need to know that itâs SMART to get a lawyer. Get a lawyer.
If you want to watch a show that shows people admitting to things they may not have done and the tactics involved, check out The Confession Tapes. Itâs on Netflix.
My husband is a defense attorney, and yeah, get a lawyer. There is no lawyer more expensive than not getting a lawyer in this kind of situation.
In response to the NSFW ban being enacted by Tumblr Staff, on December 17th 2018 I propose that we all log off of our Tumblr accounts for 24 hours.Â
The lack of respect and communication between staff and users is stark. Users have been begging staff to delete the porn bot outbreak, which has plagued the website for well over a year. The porn bots oftentimes send people asks and messages, trying to get them to go to a website full of viruses. They also spam advertisements on others posts. Â
Users have also begged that Tumblr ban neo-nazis, child porn, and pedophiles, all which run rampant on the site. The site/app got so bad that it was taken off the app store.
However, instead of answering the users, Tumblr has instead taken the liberty to ban all NSFW content, regardless of age. But users have already run into issues of their SFW content being marked as sensitive and being flagged as NSFW, not allowing them to share their work.
Not only does this discriminate again content creators, but it also discriminates against sex workers. Disgustingly, the ban will be enacted on December 17 which is also International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers.
This ban is disgusting, and while I (and plenty of others) welcome porn bots and child porn being banned, the Tumblr filtration system is broken. It tags artistic workâs nipples as NSFW (when it is art), it tags SFW art as NSFW (when it is not), and does not stop the porn bots, neo-nazis and dozens of other issues.
This ban is discriminatory. This ban is ineffective. This ban is unacceptable.Â
To protest, log off of your Tumblr account for the entirety of November 17th. Log off at 12 am EST or 9PM PST and stay off for 24 hours. Donât post. Donât log on. Donât even visit the website. Donât give them that sweet ad revenue.Â
Tumblrâs stock has already taken a hard hit. Letâs make it tank. Maybe then they will listen to the users.Â
